Gaining chapters get the attention. Fading chapters deserve a plan too, because students either keep over-studying them or drop them entirely.
The fading chapters
| Chapter | Subject | 2022–23 share | 2024–26 share | Change |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Limit, Continuity and Differentiability | Maths | 12.1% | 8.8% | -3.3 pts |
| Organic Compounds Containing Oxygen | Chemistry | 10.0% | 7.5% | -2.5 pts |
| Trigonometry | Maths | 6.9% | 4.8% | -2.1 pts |
| Oscillations and Waves | Physics | 6.4% | 4.7% | -1.7 pts |
| Laws of Motion | Physics | 5.1% | 3.5% | -1.6 pts |
| Gravitation | Physics | 4.3% | 2.7% | -1.6 pts |
| Electromagnetic Waves | Physics | 3.5% | 2.5% | -1.0 pts |
Why a chapter fades
We cannot say why for any one chapter. Possible reasons are shifts in question mix, syllabus trimming elsewhere that moved weight to other chapters, and chance. What we can say is that these chapters carry less of the paper now.
A fair way to handle them
- Do not drop them. A fading chapter still carries marks, and several of these still rank in the top half of their subject.
- Compress your preparation. Learn the core results, solve the PYQs, and move on.
- Redirect the time. Spend the saved hours on gaining chapters.
