Physics revision is more than memorising equations
A formula is useful only when you know its assumptions, symbols and applicable situation. Begin each chapter with a compact concept map and work through representative problems.
A four-step revision loop
- Recall the key principles without looking at your notes.
- Write important relations and check units and conditions.
- Solve questions of varied forms, beginning with the ones you can justify step by step.
- Review mistakes and note whether the problem was conceptual, mathematical or time-related.
Make a useful formula sheet
For each formula, record the symbols, units, limitations and a short example of when it applies. Avoid turning your sheet into an unexplained wall of equations.
Common Physics practice mistakes
- Applying a familiar formula without checking assumptions.
- Ignoring sign conventions or units.
- Looking at the solution too quickly.
- Repeating solved examples instead of testing recall.
Suggested session
Spend part of the session recalling a concept, part solving questions and the final part reviewing errors. Adjust the proportions based on your needs.
