JEE Main chapter-wise weightage 2022–2026

This guide counts how many JEE Main questions came from each chapter across 2022–2026 — 9,048 questions in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, counted across every shift. 54 chapters are still in the syllabus; 11 that were asked earlier no longer are.

Weighted by how much of the full paper each chapter takes (each subject carries equal marks), the biggest chapters in 2024–2026 were Co-ordinate Geometry (Maths, about 4.5% of the paper), Integral Calculus (Maths, about 3.7% of the paper) and Optics (Physics, about 3.4% of the paper).

Frequently asked questions

Which chapters have the highest weightage in JEE Main?

Ranked by their share of questions in 2024–2026, the top three chapters in each subject were — Physics: Optics, Properties of Solids and Liquids and Electrostatics; Chemistry: Coordination Compounds, Organic Compounds Containing Oxygen and Redox Reactions and Electrochemistry; Mathematics: Co-ordinate Geometry, Integral Calculus and Limit, Continuity and Differentiability.

How many questions are in this analysis?

9,048 questions across 2022–2026 and all shifts: 2,905 in Physics, 2,932 in Chemistry and 3,211 in Mathematics. Because one year has many shifts, these are much larger than a single paper's 25 scored questions per subject.

Are there chapters I can skip for JEE Main?

11 chapters that appeared in earlier years are not in NTA's JEE Main 2026 syllabus, including Communication Systems, General Principles and Processes of Isolation of Metals, States of Matter and Environmental Chemistry. Check the latest NTA syllabus before dropping any chapter.

Does a high-weightage chapter guarantee questions next year?

No. Past frequency shows where JEE Main has focused, not what it will ask next. Use it to decide what to study first, and still cover the full syllabus.

How should I use chapter-wise weightage?

Start with chapters that have both a high share and a steady or rising trend, then solve previous-year questions on each so you see how the chapter is actually tested.

Counts are compiled from Edurack's JEE Main last five-year analysis (2022–2026) and count questions across all shifts and sessions of each year. Because the number of shifts changes every year, trends compare each chapter's share of the paper among chapters still in the syllabus, not raw counts. Past frequency is a trend guide, not a prediction. Chapters marked "not in syllabus" are absent from NTA's JEE Main 2026 syllabus; always check the latest NTA syllabus before skipping a chapter.
