Total counts tell you what was big. Momentum tells you what is getting bigger. We compared each chapter's average share of its subject in 2022–23 against 2024–26, using only chapters still in the syllabus so dropped chapters do not distort the picture.
Chapters gaining weight
| Chapter | Subject | 2022–23 share | 2024–26 share | Change |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Optics | Physics | 7.0% | 10.5% | +3.5 pts |
| Physics and Measurement | Physics | 2.6% | 5.3% | +2.7 pts |
| Sets, Relations and Functions | Mathematics | 4.5% | 7.1% | +2.6 pts |
| Coordination Compounds | Chemistry | 6.0% | 7.9% | +1.9 pts |
| Rotational Motion | Physics | 4.0% | 5.7% | +1.7 pts |
| Sequence and Series | Mathematics | 5.4% | 7.0% | +1.6 pts |
| Classification of Elements and Periodicity | Chemistry | 2.3% | 3.8% | +1.5 pts |
| Some Basic Principles of Organic Chemistry | Chemistry | 4.2% | 5.6% | +1.4 pts |
| Vector Algebra | Mathematics | 4.8% | 6.0% | +1.2 pts |
How we define "gaining"
A chapter is "gaining" when its recent average share is at least 25% higher than its earlier share and at least 0.8 percentage points higher. That filter keeps small random swings out of the list.
Chapters fading
| Chapter | Subject | 2022–23 share | 2024–26 share | Change |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Limit, Continuity and Differentiability | Mathematics | 12.1% | 8.8% | -3.3 pts |
| Organic Compounds Containing Oxygen | Chemistry | 10.0% | 7.5% | -2.5 pts |
| Trigonometry | Mathematics | 6.9% | 4.8% | -2.1 pts |
| Oscillations and Waves | Physics | 6.4% | 4.7% | -1.7 pts |
| Laws of Motion | Physics | 5.1% | 3.5% | -1.6 pts |
| Gravitation | Physics | 4.3% | 2.7% | -1.6 pts |
| Electromagnetic Waves | Physics | 3.5% | 2.5% | -1.0 pts |
What to do with this
- Gaining chapters: move them up your priority list and add more practice time.
- Fading chapters: keep them in revision, but do not make them your main focus.
- Everything else: stay consistent. Most chapters are stable.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why compare shares instead of raw counts?
The number of shifts changes every year, so raw counts are not comparable across years. Shares of the paper are.
Which chapter gained the most?
Optics (Physics), from 7.0% to 10.5% of its subject.
