JEE Main Questions by Subject and Year, 2022–2026
How many Physics, Chemistry and Maths questions did we count in each JEE Main year? A year-by-year table, why the totals differ, and what that means for comparisons.

A common mistake when reading previous-year data is comparing raw counts across years. This table shows why that does not work.
Questions counted by year
| Subject | 2022 | 2023 | 2024 | 2025 | 2026 | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Physics | 649 | 706 | 600 | 475 | 475 | 2905 |
| Chemistry | 775 | 648 | 438 | 596 | 475 | 2932 |
| Maths | 779 | 657 | 700 | 600 | 475 | 3211 |
| All subjects | 2203 | 2011 | 1738 | 1671 | 1425 | 9,048 |
Why the totals change
Each year's count covers every shift of every session. When the number of shifts changes, the total changes with it, even though each paper has the same 25 questions per subject.
That is why we compare chapters by their share of a subject, not their raw counts, and why momentum labels use shares.
Subject totals
- Physics: 2,905 questions
- Chemistry: 2,932 questions
- Maths: 3,211 questions
Maths has the highest count with only 14 chapters, which is why its chapters look so heavy compared with Physics and Chemistry.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why are JEE Main question counts so high?
Every shift of every session is counted, not just one paper.
Can I compare raw counts across years?
Not safely. Compare each chapter's share of its subject instead.
