JEE Main Maths: The Chapters That Carry the Subject
Co-ordinate Geometry, Integral Calculus and Limit, Continuity and Differentiability together account for about 33.3% of five years of JEE Main Maths questions. Here is why Maths rewards concentrated preparation and how to use that.

Maths has 14 chapters left in the syllabus, fewer than Physics or Chemistry. The result is that its heaviest chapters carry a lot.
The numbers
Over 2022–2026, 3,211 Maths questions were counted. The three heaviest chapters by total share:
| Chapter | Total Qs | Share of Maths (2022–26) | Share of Maths (2024–26) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Co-ordinate Geometry | 409 | 12.7% | 13.5% |
| Integral Calculus | 337 | 10.5% | 11.1% |
| Limit, Continuity and Differentiability | 323 | 10.1% | 8.9% |
Together that is roughly 33.3% of everything asked across five years, from just three of 14 chapters.
Why this happens
Co-ordinate geometry and calculus are large chapters with many sub-topics, so they are tested in many shapes. Limits, continuity and differentiability and integral calculus also feed into each other, so one weak foundation affects several chapters.
What to do
- Build a strong core first. Spend your first Maths weeks on these chapters until your accuracy is high.
- Practise by concept, not just by chapter. Concepts like Linear Differential Equation, Area Bounded by Two Curves, Dispersion (Variance and Standard Deviation) and Vector (Cross) Product of Two Vectors repeat often.
- Keep the lighter chapters in a short cycle. They still contribute marks.
Do not ignore the rest
Complex Numbers and Quadratic Equations, Three Dimensional Geometry, Sets, Relations and Functions and Sequence and Series also carry real weight. Concentrating on the top three is a starting point, not a reason to skip the rest.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Maths chapters matter most for JEE Main?
Co-ordinate Geometry, Integral Calculus and Limit, Continuity and Differentiability are the heaviest by share across 2022–2026.
Can I score well in Maths by focusing on only a few chapters?
You can build a strong base, but you will leave marks on the table. Cover every chapter at least at a core level.
