Some subjects reward depth in a few chapters. Others reward breadth. We measured how much of each subject's 2024–26 questions came from its top five chapters.
| Subject | Current chapters | Top-5 share of recent questions | Top five chapters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Physics | 20 | 39.4% | Optics, Properties of Solids and Liquids, Electrostatics, Magnetic Effects of Current and Magnetism and Current Electricity |
| Chemistry | 20 | 34.0% | Coordination Compounds, Organic Compounds Containing Oxygen, Redox Reactions and Electrochemistry, Some Basic Principles of Organic Chemistry and Hydrocarbons |
| Maths | 14 | 47.8% | Co-ordinate Geometry, Integral Calculus, Limit, Continuity and Differentiability, Complex Numbers and Quadratic Equations and Three Dimensional Geometry |
What it means
- Maths is the most concentrated: a handful of chapters decide a large part of the subject.
- Physics and Chemistry spread their questions over more chapters, so breadth matters more.
Strategy by subject
- Maths: build depth in the top chapters first, then broaden.
- Physics: make sure no major chapter is a gap. Each chapter is a small share.
- Chemistry: cover physical, organic and inorganic evenly, and make Coordination Compounds a strength.
