Physics in JEE Main leans heavily on conceptual clarity plus numerical accuracy. Mechanics and Electrodynamics together make up the largest share of the paper, so build these first and revisit them the most.
This is part of our complete JEE Main Syllabus 2027 guide.

Chapter Priority
The following reflects how chapters have historically shown up in JEE Main papers. This is a study-order guide based on past trends, not an officially published NTA weightage.
- Consistently high-yield: Mechanics (Kinematics, Laws of Motion, Rotational Motion), Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Modern Physics (Atoms & Nuclei, Dual Nature)
- Steady, moderate presence: Thermodynamics, Magnetism & EMI, Optics
- Fewer but predictable questions: Waves & Oscillations, Electronic Devices, EM Waves
How to Prepare
- NCERT diagrams and derivations first — several JEE Main Physics questions are direct extensions of NCERT content.
- Build a formula sheet per chapter as you go, not at the end.
- Solve numerical-heavy chapters (Mechanics, Electrostatics) daily in short bursts rather than one long session per week.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many questions come from Physics in JEE Main?
25 questions (20 MCQ + 5 Numerical Value) out of 75 total, carrying 100 of the 300 marks.
Which Physics chapters should I prioritize first?
Mechanics and Electrostatics — they carry the most consistent weight and also form the base for later chapters like EMI and Magnetism.
