JEE Main Low-Weightage Chapters: How to Finish Them Fast

The 10 lightest JEE Main chapters by recent weight, why they are still worth a short, focused pass, and a simple way to finish each one quickly.

Not every chapter deserves the same hours. The lightest chapters carry only a small share of the paper, so the goal is to finish them fast and well, not to ignore them.

A short-pass method

  1. Read the syllabus scope once and tick what you know.
  2. Learn the handful of formulas or facts the chapter is built on.
  3. Solve the chapter's previous-year questions in a single sitting.
  4. Log mistakes and revisit them once.

Where to start inside each

  • Experimental Skills: Least count and zero error for vernier calipers and screw gauge, the principle behind each listed experiment, and which reading or graph gives the required quantity.
  • Principles Related to Practical Chemistry: Colours of salts and precipitates, tests for functional groups and the logic of titrations.
  • Electromagnetic Waves: A short, recall-based chapter: the order of the spectrum by wavelength and frequency, the use of each region, and the idea of displacement current.
  • Organic Compounds Containing Halogens: SN1 versus SN2 and elimination, the reactivity order of alkyl halides, and the uses and effects of the compounds in the syllabus.
  • Gravitation: Orbital and escape velocity, satellite energy, variation of g with height and depth, and Kepler's laws.
  • Kinetic Theory of Gases: RMS, mean and most probable speeds, degrees of freedom, the equipartition theorem and the specific heat ratio.

Time budget

A reasonable rule: give a light chapter about a week of focused effort across your whole preparation, including its PYQs and one revision, and no more.
