JEE Main 2027 Registration Begins: Everything Students Need to Know Before Applying

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has opened the online application process for JEE Main 2027 Session 1. The official bulletin lists registration from 24 October to 22 November 2026. This is an important admission pathway for undergraduate engineering programmes at NITs, IIITs and other participating institutions. Paper 1 also serves as an eligibility examination for JEE Advanced, subject to its separate rules.

Apply only through NTA: Official Session 1 application announcement (opens in a new tab) or jeemain.nta.nic.in (opens in a new tab). This article is based on the uploaded 2027 Information Bulletin; check the NTA portal for later notices.

Those interested only in Session 2 can register during its application period. If a candidate appears in both sessions, the better applicable NTA score is considered for ranking.

2. How to Apply for JEE Main 2027

  1. Visit the official NTA website (opens in a new tab) and open the Session 1 online application.
  2. Register with the required details, create a password and save the system-generated application number. The bulletin also enables registration through the MeriPehchaan single sign-on service.
  3. Log in to complete personal, contact, category, educational qualification, paper, examination-city and question-paper-medium details.
  4. Capture your live photograph and upload the scanned photograph, signature, Class 10 certificate/marksheet and any other applicable documents.
  5. Pay through debit card, credit card, net banking or UPI. Processing charges and GST may apply.
  6. Download, save and preferably print the confirmation page. Successful fee receipt is essential for confirmed submission.

Do not send printed forms or documents to NTA by post, WhatsApp or email. The application process is online.

The uploaded photograph should show approximately 80% of the face, including the ears, without a mask, against a white background. A live photograph is also required during form submission. Use a webcam or the portal's QR-code mobile/tablet capture option where needed. NTA advises candidates to keep Aadhaar details, including the photograph, updated.

Prepare the files beforehand, ensure they belong to the candidate, and check that all scans are legible.

4. Application Fee for One Paper

This applies when selecting only Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech), Paper 2A (B.Arch) or Paper 2B (B.Planning).

5. Eligibility: Who Can Apply?

Age: NTA has not prescribed an age limit to appear in JEE Main 2027, although individual institutions may impose separate admission conditions.

Qualifying examination year: Candidates who first passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination in 2025 or 2026, or are appearing in 2027, can apply. Those who first passed in 2024 or earlier are not eligible under this passing-year condition. An improvement attempt does not reset the original passing year.

Recognised qualifications include examinations from recognised Central/State Boards and other equivalent routes listed in Chapter 3 of the bulletin. Eligibility to sit JEE Main is not automatically eligibility for admission to every institution; check the relevant institution's rules separately.

State Code of Eligibility

This generally depends on the state from which the student first passed the qualifying Class 12 examination, not the state of residence or birthplace. For example, a Noida resident who passed Class 12 from a New Delhi institution generally has Delhi as the state of eligibility. Special provisions exist for NIOS/BOSSE and certain overseas cases; refer to the bulletin.

6. Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme

Marking: +4 for a correct response, −1 for an incorrect response and 0 for an unanswered question. Negative marking applies to numerical-value questions as well as MCQs. Numerical answers must follow the bulletin's nearest-integer instructions. Paper 1 is three hours for candidates without applicable compensatory-time provisions.

Paper 2A (B.Arch) and Paper 2B (B.Planning) carry 400 marks each. The combined B.Arch and B.Planning examination lasts three hours thirty minutes for candidates without applicable compensatory-time provisions.

Examination Shifts

Three-hour papers: 9 AM–12 noon or 3 PM–6 PM IST. Three-and-a-half-hour papers: 9 AM–12:30 PM or 3 PM–6:30 PM IST. The specific date, shift and centre are conveyed through the admit card.

Languages

The bulletin lists 13 languages: English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. Availability depends on examination-centre provisions. The English version prevails in case of a discrepancy between language versions.

7. Correction Window: What Can Be Edited?

Session 1 correction is scheduled for 27–29 November 2026. Only fields enabled by NTA during that window may be edited. Do not assume every detail can be changed. Carefully verify the category, disability status, paper selection, personal details, educational qualifications and other entries before submission. NTA does not accept corrections by post, WhatsApp, email or hand delivery.

8. Ten Common Registration Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Creating more than one application number instead of resolving an incomplete or payment-pending application through NTA.
  2. Entering a name or date of birth inconsistent with supporting records.
  3. Using an inaccessible email address or mobile number.
  4. Uploading an incorrect photograph, signature or unreadable document.
  5. Claiming a category or disability status without meeting the applicable conditions.
  6. Confusing permanent residence with state code of eligibility.
  7. Selecting the wrong examination paper or question-paper medium.
  8. Waiting until the last few minutes of registration.
  9. Assuming a bank debit is proof of successful submission without checking the confirmation page.
  10. Relying on unofficial websites instead of the NTA portal and Information Bulletin.

9. Payment Deducted but No Confirmation Page?

Check transaction status with the bank/payment gateway. If the bank confirms the payment failed, make a fresh payment before the deadline. If it succeeded but no confirmation page appears, contact NTA with the transaction reference, bank details, date/time and proof. Verified duplicate payments arising during resolution are handled through NTA's reconciliation/refund process. Do not create a second application number merely because payment is pending.

12. What to Do After Registering

Registration is the starting point, not the end of preparation. Continue revising concepts, practising available questions and reviewing mistakes. Explore Edurack's JEE Main 2027 resource hub (opens in a new tab) for available chapter notes and practice material. Edurack's JEE question bank is still being expanded; do not assume it has complete shift-wise coverage.
